In practice, this means that adult-only platforms, such as adult content streaming or social media sites, need to add restrictions and prevent underage users from accessing their content unless they successfully complete the age verification process.
This practice has become popular, as many US states, including Mississippi or Louisiana, have implemented their own age verification requirements, showing a standardized approach to stricter measures when it comes to protecting minors. Previously, many sites that stream adult-only content either did not use any sort of verification or used simple age gates, which did not require ID document verification or biometric authentication and could be easily bypassed.
