Hey, guys, I’m Deividas Tamkus, a Backend Team Lead at iDenfy. I guess life is truly full of unexpected twists and turns. Can you believe that when I was a little kid, I wanted to be a doctor? That didn’t turn out as planned, but I’m very happy about where I’m at right now – with iDenfy.

It Started With a Recommendation

Believe it or not, iDenfy is my first real job. I like the fact that I’ve started off strong. Now, as a Team Lead, even if it sounds a bit cliche, it’s hard to imagine myself working anywhere else. It all started when my friend Viktor began his journey here.

He liked it so much that he recommended me and advised me to give iDenfy a chance. I’m glad I did. What makes iDenfy so special to me is the people. I’m surrounded by friends who share the same values as me, and that’s why it never gets boring.

The Smartest Kid in Class

I genuinely think I’m a moderate person, mainly because I don’t like bragging. I’d like to believe that I’m a quick learner. If you’d ask my friends or anyone at work, every single person would describe me with one word: “smart”, and I won’t lie; it warms my heart. Ever since I was in elementary school, I have liked learning and have taken it seriously.

Compared to other classmates, doing homework was never a hard task for me. That’s why I helped my friends with schoolwork a lot, including letting them copy my homework. Surprisingly, that hat hasn’t changed much in college. One friend even told me that my tutoring taught them more than the actual classes.

Doctor Turned Programmer

I’ve mentioned that I thought I’d be a doctor when I grew up, and back then, it felt like this wasn’t just a little dream. Looking back on it, I think being a doctor felt like the go-to profession for fast learners like me. Despite that, the funny thing was that I didn’t know if I wanted to be a doctor or if it was my family that pushed this idea into my head. At one point, my grandma’s neighbors were already booking assignments for when I became a doctor.

This plan quickly fell out of the list when I was introduced to programming in the 10th grade. Even though there was only one weekly class back then, I fell in love immediately and never looked back. Now, working in the healthcare industry sounds like an outlandish idea, especially having to go through med school for ten years.

No Special Hacks

While some may have unique hacks to boost their motivation at work, I feel like I don’t particularly need them. I’m motivated to go to work simply because I enjoy doing it. For this reason, I suppose that no reasonable amount of money could force me into a dull routine, especially into doing something repetitive every day.

I like my line of work because no day is ever the same. In rare cases,  even if a few days in a row do end up being very similar, this type of scenario doesn’t bring down my productivity. Since amazing teammates surround me, I like to offer my help without bothering others too much. I would never stand in the way of another person achieving their goals. I believe being a Team Lead is about inspiring your team to reach major milestones.

People Won Over Other Factors

At first glance, I thought the most exciting part about my job was coding. I soon realized that people matter to me the most. Not just my team but all my coworkers. Even working remotely, I see almost all of iDenfy’s members as great friends and enjoy talking to them, whether it’s work-related or not.

Work can be relaxing. Of course, not everything’s fun and games. Sometimes it’s challenging to finish all tasks in time, as we have tight deadlines. As a team leader, I can’t allow myself to procrastinate. Otherwise, my work piles up. I try to be the best example to my team, and I know that our entire schedule depends on me doing everything on time.

Future Plans and Secret Hobbies

I’m one of those people who absolutely love music. I like the full package, as I enjoy listening to music, singing, and dancing. I’m far from a professional, but that doesn’t stop me from embarrassing myself in public from time to time. That said, I plan to step up my game. When I finally finish my Master’s degree, I’ll take up piano. Something about an instrument that uses a keyboard sounds very close to my heart.

I also like taking walks, as it helps me ease my mind. One of my favorite memories that I have is of a few kilometers walk out of town on an August night on my birthday. It was two of my best friends and me. We kept on talking for hours and watched the falling stars. Our crew ended up getting home at four in the morning.

A Pet-Free Animal Lover

I really like pets. Despite that, I don’t have any of my own. The story’s simple: I’m a huge animal lover, but I never had one because a member of my family is allergic to fur. When I finally buy my own home, I will certainly get at least a cat and a dog. I’m also interested in parrots and snakes, but I don’t want to go overboard and live in a zoo. But who knows what will happen in the future?

And that’s a wrap on Deividas’ story. If you’re a developer, an aspiring Team Lead, or a passionate tech geek – we might be a match. Send us your CV to find out more about iDenfy and our career opportunities
